@VonLeachim The canes that I am pruning in the video are canes that bore fruit in the spring. Those canes are nearly dead by the time I prune them. If you try planting the pruned canes you will get nothing because they die after fruit is produced. You could pull up some of the current years growth and plant it in the woods if you wish. This isn't a good practice though because raspberry have virus problems in the wild. Once you get a wild virus in the patch you are out of business.

@Alina674 I used to raise Heritage and Canby when I lived in the upper Midwest. They are excellent summer bearing types. Here in California the ever bearing types do so well that I only grow berries that produce two crops per year.

@GreenGardenGuy1 I noticed that you did mention the variety in the video, oops I missed that at first. Yes, I remember you let me try the fall gold rasp. I planted fall gold in my yard this year. I also have heritage, canby, caroline & tulameen. I really like the flavor of the tulameen & fall gold the best. I recommend tulameen (for summer berries). I've been saving most of them in the freezer for canning. My "backyard grocery store" is doing very well, thanks 4 all the tips!

Thank you for your advice. I love American accent.
My raspberries grow about 8 foot tall , do i cut them back , and when?

@hildedurstberger This video was about how to tend ever bearing raspberries during the summer. The heading back of raspberries is the only pruning done on them during the winter. I haven't discussed it but ever winter I cut my canes to just above the top wire of the trellis, about 4 1/2 feet. This keeps the canes from flowering out too tall to pick.

Hi Bill, Hope you're having a great summer. I was watching your raspberry video & was curious wondering what variety of raspberries you are growing?

@Alina674 I'm having a fine summer, nice to hear from you. I grow mostly Fall Gold, the golden raspberry but I also have some red Indian Summer.

Great video. With the old canes, can they be planted again.

@phuonghan1 No, the old canes just die if they aren't pruned off before that happens. If you need more plants you divide the runners from the roots.
