We're back yet again for another edition of Petty's Predictions! As you all know, the first preseason games kicked off this week and BOY do we have a lot to talk about! I'm not someone who reads too much into preseason games, but I do have some quick notes about a few players who have increased their fantasy value from this first week.

I wasn't too high on Philip Rivers this year until I saw his drive in the preseason game against the Seahawks. Rivers looked as if he was in mid-season form against Seattle's starters. I still think that Norv Turner is going to try and balance the attack more than we saw last year, but I have raised Rivers into a mid third round value. To get a better perspective on this, I would take Rivers after Vick, Brady, Brees, and Rodgers, but before Manning and another other QB available. In touchdown only leagues I would place Rivers in the same class as Brady and Vick. In the red zone, turner opted to run a screen pass to Tolbert instead of running it in. This bodes well for Rivers to build on his 30TD season.

This brings us right into my next highlight. Vincent Jackson looked equally awesome and has jumped up into my top 5 receivers for this season. After watching preseason games my top 5 receivers are Calvin Johnson, Andre Johnson, Roddy White, Larry Fitzgerald, and Vincent Jackson. Jackson showed great seperation on the 47 yard bomb from Rivers. Although Gates was not playing, rivers targeted Jackson 3 times in his 6 attempts. This guy is going to go off this year.

Enough about those two players, I'm going to run through a list of points I wrote down from watching every preseason game.

Zach Miller was not impressive during the Seahawks preseason game, lower him in your fantasy rankings. With Todd Heap gone, Dennis Pitta received two of Flacco's six targets, lookout for his sleeper value this year.

LeGarrett Blount made a reception in the preseason opener, this is important because he only caught 5 passes last year. Move him up in your PPR rankings.

Felix Jones looked good in his preseason debut. With Marion Barber gone, Jones is looking more attractive as a running back 2.

Jahvid Best has recovered from his turf toe injury and looks ready to carry the load in Detroit. He should be utilized heavily on offense if he can stay healthy.

Megatron (Calvin Johnson) is my number one receiver this year. With a healthy Matt Stafford, he should be ready to lead all receivers in touchdowns and yardage.

Colt McCoy looked very good in the west coast offense, he should be ready to be rosterable in all fantasy leagues. Feel free to take him in the late rounds as your backup quarterback and bye week replacement. Remember to play your matchups wisely with him.

Greg Olsen looked great in Carolina. With either quarterback he'll be the safety net and should notch 65-75 receptions this year. The good thing about Olsen is you can get him after all the elite tight ends are gone and save your high picks for the important positions.

Sam Bradford did not impress me in the preseason opener. He looked more like a game manager than a draftable QB. Don't downgrade him yet, but I'm going to keep a close eye on the rest of his preseason.

That's all I have for you this week, leave your comments below and we can discuss players mentioned and not mentioned on the show. Don't forget to like and subscribe, as always, Don't sweat the Petty things, and don't pet the sweaty things.

  • figures a fat tub of shit thinking preseason means everything lol w/e dude you wasent high ov rivers? hes been good for past 2-3 seasons get with the program fatass

  • @sharpshooter91992 you're welcome?

  • stop listening after "not to high on rivers."

  • @Theateam911 It’s not that I think Philip Rivers is going to struggle this year, because he’s not. It’s the fact that the Chargers will not be playing from behind all year and Norv Turner will want to balance his attack when they are in the lead. He’s still a top 5 fantasy quarterback, but he’s not going to challenge for the most points at his position in any format.

  • Megatron came outta nowhere lmao, matt staffords my boy! Sick em dawgs! :D

  • @DavidLeeT lol thanks for watching!
