La Nuit with Värttinä 2004

On arrival the audience was offered mint tea, and seated on countless cushions and benches dotted around the space. Playing along with improvisations and fragments of classical music the Finnish band Värttinä played solo's and short tracks from various positions in the audience. Suddenly from the balcony the massive sound of an entire brass band burst out, and amid the audience 30 children started making soft noises, and then got up and sang along on stage with Värttinä. Moments of intimacy alternated with moments of loud intensity which resounded throughout the entire space. Finally Värttinä gave a cracking performance that turned into a club night.
