Just Got a Power Mac G5 Quad

Well just a little bit about my new but used Power Mac!

Power Mac G5 QUAD has:

Processor 4 X 2.5 GHz PowerPC G5
Memory 6 BG DDR 2 SDRAM
1 TB Hard Drive Space

I got this Power Mac from a Friend of mine Larry, Thanks Man! Just wanted to put it up, my opening and cleaning of this UNIT! Bro I know you have the newer one which is hella fast but man this compared to the 24'' iMac I had its a beast!

Wait till that water cooling system leaks...

I just bought a G5 system on eBay for $100 but I stayed FAR away from any of them with the water cooling system. Just Google G5 and water cooling leak.

@frankthespank well having to do with the water cooling system leaking, still nothing, its running flawlessly I believe it was a certain model and year that these were in production that had a faulty cooling system. just have to be careful with which one you buy,

I had too, first time I actually got to mess with it. Didnt want too mess it up, or have that chance. I had a imac prior. So of course I did, but ask me now... Don't need it... Later

@EdwardxStros I do miss my iMac but nowadays the new intel iMacs or Power Mac's its just a different story

@mackenhack--- I would recommend on getting the intel version of this so you can have more options especially with the newer software coming in!!!!

@EdwardxStros Yeah but that is why you have different platforms. Stay with the Best platform Macintosh based performance, and then buy in intel based apple like I have, I have a MacBook Pro as well which I have updated since it is a intel version.

How much did you pay for it? Even being outdated by soon to be 3 operating system revisions, this thing still has a high resale value on my local kijiji, its kind of annoying as I want one for general derping :P

BTW I just put a SSD (Solid State Drive) in my G5, got a 3.5" adaptor for like $10 and threw it in there as a OS/Application drive. Sucker boots from a cold startup in like 10 seconds!

I got some cheap SSD off of eBay for like $40 and its only 64gb which was more than enough for the OS and all my apps, I have a HD in the second bay with a 1TB drive for all my files. Really cheap upgrade for such a speed increase. Don't buy an expensive SSD since the G5 has an older SATA 1 controller.

@EdwardxStros I've read ALL of the G5's with LCS (Liquid Cooling System) can have problems but the first generation LCS machines had some BAD problems, you have the later LCS since it is a quad so you should be OK but keep an eye on it.

The G5 I got is a Dual 2Ghz, since UPS dropped it a few times on its way here one of the CPU's popped out of the socket so I had to reseat it, been running like a champ since. I use to work at Apple until I got in a car accident but I still like to dabble :)

well the processor has also 2,5 ghz like the smallest imac. but it is an elder processor generation. The cpu is good but I think that the graphics card with 64 mb is not enough for photoshop. lg
