  • Did you ever find out what it was? My Rodeo 3.2 makes the exact same noise.

  • i have the same problem. tried everything, marvel mystery oil, flush my engine, oil additives, fuel additives, and other stuff, the ticking is still there. the only solution is to go in the engine and change the valve lifter to a new one.

  • Personally it sounds like the dreaded timing chain guides problem. this happened to me and my engine was basically shot. i drove it to the mechanic where he tried to fix the valves but it was because the guides were broken and the chain skipped a tooth so the timing was off.

  • That sounds like a stuck lifter. You need to run some Marvel Mystery Oil to clean out the hydraulic lifters. Also, use some good quality synthetic oil. My Q has over 230k miles on it and it purrs like new. That's due to a lifetime of good oil changes. These cars can last for a long time but you have to do the necessary maintenance. The car has a very high performance engine straight from the factory and it needs to be taken care. Check out my vids if you want to see a fast Q45. Best of regards.
