"Do they not observe the birds above them, spreading their wings and folding them in?" By 2011, paleontologists agree that birds descend directly from Theropods. Theropods are a special kind of dinosaurs. While there were flying dinosaurs in previous eras and in the Jurassic, they were all extinct. By 2011, paleontologists agree that birds descend directly from Theropods. To the bone, dinosaurs were already evolving to regulate the warming temperatures. Recently in China in the Gobi desert more than 400 new fossils were discovered. They belong to post-Triassic era, early Jurassic. The Triassic is dated 250 million years ago, then came the Jurassic, 100 million years ago. The Jurassic transformed into the Cretaceous. The discoveries in the Gobi Desert of China show fossils with feathers. Other fossils discovered in Gobi also show hair. These new discoveries are changing the way Paleontologists think about Dinosaurs. What will these discoveries do for the realm of the evolution of birds? How did they make this evolutionary jump? Birds conquered a natural kingdom which no other organisms even attempted to biologically cross over in modern eras. Birds took to water, earth and air. They diversified, reproduced, shape-shifted, hunted, nested, nourished and strived. They spread throughout the regions becoming one of the most elusive organisms. The capacity displayed by theropods, required to survive a serious global warming, geological events and climate changes, hold an essential message for this time? The fossil record speaks of massive extinction and speaks of the forces needed to endure times of world wide natural crisis. Theropods genes survived taking to the skies, this can only be considered a re-evolutionary jump. A jump so powerful that still it flies.
