Military lawyer and court martial attorney Greg Rinckey comments on the Alberto Martinez verdict. Legal experts say a military jury's acquittal of a New York Army National Guard sergeant accused of killing superiors shows the military justice system works.

A Fort Bragg jury acquitted Staff Sgt. Alberto Martinez on Thursday of two counts of premeditated murder in the 2005 bombing deaths of two officers in Iraq.

Air Force lawyer Michelle McCluer said Friday that many people watching the case thought Martinez could be convicted, and jurors took their responsibilities seriously.

Attorney Greg Rinckey agreed. He handles military cases and said people he spoke with about the case were surprised by the acquittal. Rinckey said many onlookers thought Martinez was guilty because several witnesses testified they heard him threaten his commander's life.
