i7 2.7GHz
4GB DDR3
OCZ 120GB + 500GB HDD optibay
OSX 10.6.6

Watch my MBP 2011 i7 pwn with the SSD. Anyone that says the MBA is faster than any Macbook Pro is just crazy. Throw in an SSD and you smoke the MBA all around. Instant on? pssshh, plus I can upgrade ram and have two disk drives as well.

  • i am a pc enthusiast and i like macs because of their simplicity and ease, but why would someone dislike this video? envy?

  • Around 14 seconds power on, 3 second power off.

For permanent instant sleep, enter this in terminal (at your own risk):

    sudo pmset -a hibernatemode 0

    sudo nvram "use-nvramrc?"=false

    sudo rm /var/vm/sleepimage

    sudo ln -s /dev/null /var/vm/sleepimage

  • Wow... The Vertex 2 on a mbp 11 makes everything instant! Who needs the Vertex 3?

  • @aznguyen316 My understanding is that the version of OS X on the new macbook pros includes TRIM. It's an updated version from the boxed OS. So yeah, there's no need to wait for an SSD on current Macbook pros! Woot!

  • @mattdj313 Sandforce controller on OCZ drivers and some other drives does "garbage collection" on the fly via the controller on the SSD. TRIM does garbage collection via software like in Windows 7 or upcoming OSX. I wouldn't hesistate an SSD now b/c degradation speed happens very slowly overtime and hardly at all. It's just another way to make sure everything is running top notch.

  • @aznguyen316 - What is a sandforce controller? I vaguely even understand what TRIM is, but would it be worth waiting for TRIM support before buying a SSD (will it cause any permanent slow down in performance?) I don't even know where to find answers to these questions...

  • @mattdj313 Yup Intel reliability is great. But one big thing about TRIM? Mac OSX 10.7 will support TRIM w000t! so by the time you can afford the Intel 510 it'll be summer and you can have trim with it =D Or get a sandforce controller like Vertex2/3.

  • @aznguyen316 - but are they any good? Also, I hear the performance degrades over time because of no TRIM support on Mac OS X.
