After the House Judiciary Committee completed a mark-up of the Hate Crimes bill H.R. 1913, Rep. Louie Gohmert expressed his many concerns surrounding the legislation, including the threat it poses to religious freedom, its elevation of special classes of protected people over other crime victims, and its encroachment on issues traditionally handled by the state.

  • They should be called special status bills because they confer special status on minorities. Muslims are chomping at the bit for this bill so they can legally stop any criticism of islam by calling it a hate crime when in fact it will act as an anti-blasphemy bill for them, and that's what they've been pushing for for years.

  • And where were these same liberals when Jeffrey Curley and Jesse Dirkhising were killed? Oh wait, since they were murdered by NAMBLA, Democrats don't consider Jeffrey and Jesse hate crime victims.

  • @ToxicOdiousOne "Child molesters are Democrats. All criminals are Democrats"

This tells us everything we need to know about the level of your intelligence. Get a life!

  • This biggot doesn't even have the excuse of ignorance. He was in the committee, so he knows the definition of a hate crime. He's playing to his constituents and to the Christian Right for his own crass political advantage. He knows the things he's saying are nonsense.

  • Does he even realise that hate crimes laws have been on the books covering many groups for some time already? He seems either confused or intentionally deceitful.

  • We should oppose every defense authorization bill from now on.

  • Final clause of the bill:

"Nothing in this Act, or the amendments made by this Act, shall be construed to prohibit any expressive conduct protected from legal prohibition by, or any activities protected by, the Constitution."

That means the scenario he describes where the pastor gets arrested for a hate crime committed by a congregant because of a statement he made regarding homosexuality is not applicable under this law.

  • @ToxicOdiousOne Are you saying Texans are idiots?

  • He's good man. He will bring common sense to the US House of Representatives. He represents not just Texans but all Americans as well. I respect that in a representative.

  • @ToxicOdiousOne He's running unopposed so no one could vote for him and he'd still win....
