Nothing like silly scientists requesting government regulations... just let the market determine its own direction please! In my neck of the woods, quite literally, wood burning furnaces are the way to go. Can't get much more carbon neutral than that. The expense is minimal and I have vendors and repair men all around. I love geothermal energy as well... just please don't call for government mandates of any kind, either proceeding or preceeding...

You want a good reason not to use geo-thermal heatpumps? Here's one from someone who has had their life destroyed by one - they create non-stop noise and vibration.

I see, my understanding was flawed. It acts more like a sea to stabilize temperatures. The only trouble I could see is ground movement due to expansion / contraction of the soil/ground
I find it amazing that the ground has this amount of heat capacity (Heat energy sorted per degrees Kelvin)

The real issue is ground acting as a radiator in and out. The ground temperature will always tend to its natural norm.... cool it down and it warms back up, from air, sun, and rest of ground around. Heat it up and it cools down in same process.
