A fantastic day out with Steven, along the beautiful Somerset countryside. We find ourselves at a small little village called Freshford.
This was a Saturday so plenty of diverts were heading through this stretch of track including more freight and HSTs.
Units often pass here on Portsmouth-Cardiffs but the stoppers are often Weymouth-Gloucester etc..
HSTs are seen passing at a slow but steady speed with the struggling of getting around the illusive curves.
159s are used on the route for SouthWest trains. Today 2 class 158s in SouthWest livery were working along the line with FGW units, not quite sure what was going on there!
Freight was quiet as it usually is on Saturdays but we had 3 in the space of time in which we could last the cold! 60059 (The Loadhaul Beast) Worked 6B33 Theale-Margam Murco tanks we could hear it for miles! 66125,66176&66151 In a 130 minute early convoy From Bristol Barton Hill-Westbury. Finally 66507 makes an appearence with a very fast 6Z28 Pengam-Theale. The driver 2toning around the corner which leads me on nicely to the next subject.
Plenty of horns throughout the day from various locos and units. Listen out for the echoes around the Valleys, it was phenominal at the time. 66507 being a prime example.
Enjoy!
Note: I travelled home on Silverlink/FGW 150121 I was amazed to see inside there was a row of 2 seats and a row of 3, leaving a very small gangway. I've not seen this in any company train before!

They were diverted due to Engineering works at Swindon area. They were working Paddington-Bristol/Swansea services.
