@Rocketboy1950 From what I remember seeing as they went past, the springs were completely compressed - and good to get some idea from someone else who was there as to what went on.
-
@azervich Those wagons would have been well over 75 tonnes when full of wet soil and ballast
-
I didn't realize spoils where so heavy, I only know that them wagons are 18.5t unloaded and 35t loaded. I take it that you worked that run.
-
A Y class wouldn't even come close to moving that load on that grade. 5 of those loaded spoil wagons would max it out.
-
You want to know why they came back on the same line that they went out on.............because the bonehead in charge of safeworking didn't bring the keys to unlock the point clips at Heidelberg and the SFB's signaller didn't even know that the points were clipped. We blocked a few sparks while they worked that out.

@ninthnotch Y151 to 175 had 6-645E at 750hp.
-
Or, maybe I didn't. I read your comment wrong. I need my coffee, it's early for me. LOL
-
My bad, I meant to say 6-567. XD
Boy, those engines sure do sound awesome. The 8-cylinder 567's actually don't sound too much different then our own 12-and 16-cylinder versions. =)

You can hear the difference between the Y class (which is a 6 cyl EMD 567) and the T classes (8cyl 567's) in the notes at the end.

More Motive power? Y Class is 750hp, powerfull enough to move it, T Class's just have pour traction, sometimes on notch 3 or 4 they slip.

The wagons were very well loaded with spoil, which weighs down the wagons somewhat.
