http://www.wsre.org/conversations Born in Defuniak Springs, Florida, Buck Showalter was an All American baseball player at Mississippi State University before being drafted to the New York Yankees Minor League team where he spent seven seasons. Though he never played in the major leagues, he worked his way up as manager in the minor leagues and was promoted to the Yankees major league coaching staff in 1990 before becoming team manager in 1992. After being named American League Manager of the Year in 1995, he left the Yankees and was hired by the Arizona Diamondbacks expansion team to develop their playing roster. After managing Arizona for 3 years, Showalter worked as an ESPN analyst before joining the Texas Rangers where he was once again named Manager of the Year in 2004. He left the Rangers in 2006 and is currently an ESPN Baseball analyst. Showalter discusses his rise from the minor leagues to his experiences on baseball's biggest stage with the Yankees organization and his relationships with Yankees owner George Steinbrenner and legendary manager Billy Martin.
