Gary Waidson demonstrating how the vikings make fire by striking a flint stone against a fire steel to produce sparks. The tricky part is then to catch the spark, cover it with fire catching material and the gently blow it until the fire is produced. Lofotr Viking Museum in the Lofoten Islands, Norway (2006).

  • Good video.

If you can't find a "prepared" steel cheep just buy a cheep file and break off a 4 inch (10cm) piece. You can smooth the edge by rubbing it on concrete or it witt wear down sommth with use.

  • Very informative! THanks for posting this! ^_^

  • I found someone who sells viking firestarters, but they wanted $40 for it, which is a ripoff. All it is is a bent piece of high carbon steel. NOT worth $40! I can find scraps for free like that at a steel mill!

  • Hope his beard doesn't catch fire.
