Ak Amilin belted out a song entitled 'Ku tak pernah jemu' which was held at the Giant, 22nd November 2008, Saturday. He performed with the Epic Rhythm dancers who were ceographed by a talented dancer known as Jacko. Seventeen years have past since Radio Televisyen Brunei (RTB) and MediaCorp Pte Ltd Singapore collaborated and joined hands in broadcasting the television entertainment programme, "Rapsodi".
When it was launched in 1991, the programme was initially named "Sukmairama" and was later changed to "Rapsodi" in 2005. This year's Rapsodi "Live" will be the fourth time the programme is held.
Amirudin Abas Executive Producer of MediaCorp Suria, Shaikh Hj Hanafiyah bin Shaikh Hj Ahmad Deputy Chairman and Mohd Osman bin Hassan Rapsodi Producer, announced at a press conference that Rapsodi 2008 will merge artistes from Brunei and Singapore in an entertainment programme, broadcasting music (singing, dancing, MC's) live and is a step-up from last year's "Minus-One" event.
The press conference was held yesterday at the Dewan Raya, RTB in the capital.
This year's Rapsodi programme will be aired live on RTB 2 this Friday, at 8.30pm from the Dewan Raya of RTB.
Artistes from Singapore arrived in the sultanate on November 22 for the Rapsodi "Live" Pre-Event Programme, which was held at the Giant Hypermart in Rimba, while the second batch of artistes and officers arrived on November 23.
Shaikh Hj Hanafiyah said Brunei's artistes will focus more on both overseas and locally produced songs, mainly in the Brunei performance, while Singapore will have the option to choose their own songs, which have to be in accordance with the programme format.
In terms of performance concept, Rapsodi "Live" will be centred more on contemporary songs, which is aimed to provide an opportunity for the younger generations and new comers from both countries to experience the programme without neglecting the semi-traditional element primarily used in music, song and dance performance.
This year's Rapsodi genres will consist of pop commercial, ballad, creative ethnic, pop rock, current hit songs, opening and closing theme songs performed by artistes from both countries.
Shaikh Hj Hanafiyah said that RTB's artistes include Ak Hj Mohd Khairul Amilin Pg Hj Yahya, Raapulrizal Abd Karim, Suzanna Maidin, Siti Noor Maya Murnie Adi and Normazlina Emran while Singapore's artists include Didicazli, Elfee Ismail, Hetty Sarlene, Hyrul Anuar and Maiya Rahman.
A RTB representative yesterday said that the Rapsodi programme would provide a platform to expose young and very talented local artistes.
Meanwhile, Ak Hj Mohd Khairul Amilin, better known as Awangku Amilin among local fans, told the Bulletin that he hopes artistes from both countries will do well in their performance and enjoy themselves. "We hope to capture the hearts of the audience this year with our music.
"This is the second time for me to join the Rapsodi programme, the first was in 2005. Among the objectives of the programme are to foster closer relations between Brunei and Singapore and to introduce whilst promoting the latest original songs produced by artistes from both countries."
Ak Amilin, whose music career came to light in 2002 when he won the Bintang Radio Competition, is well known for composing songs such as 'Sebarkan Keseantero Dunia' sung by Puteri Nurizah and 'Cinta Monyet', which hit the top of the local charts. To date, he is considered as one of Brunei's rising young and multi-talented artistes.
