@kingofallwhites I am actually suggesting that there is animal abuse going on (Israeli Apartheid to use your example) and you are choosing to ignore that and focus on your opinion that there are not enough black sitcoms on TV (hardly as important we would both agree). In other words, the situation at Discovery Cove is far from torture IMO (although I would go to a place like Dolphin Research Center a non profit in the keys) and there are other animal issues MUCH more important.
-
@michmike15 You sound like someone defending Israeli Apartheid by arguing that the arabs are worse or that the US did it too. I am not completely condemning the place. I went there, I had fun, but I am discussing a real issue here. Dolphins and whales are intelligent beings that we share a lot in common with. There have been numerous instances that are well documented of them saving humans lives when they are in danger at sea. They are special animals and they are arguably too large 2 B in tanks

@kingofallwhites The hypocrisy and deflection of the "dolphin movement" is beyond belief. While I favor non profit centers Dolphin Research Center over DC, I have no doubt that the treatment of these animals is MUCH better than the animals that you EAT everyday. The treatment at DC is also better than a lot of other animals that humans use for their benefit...this has not been denied by you. I will suggest that these businesses should be regulated - perhaps that is a middle ground.

All of the marine parks have relations. They are connected, it is easy to trace them back to the Japan drive hunts. In the 1980s SeaWorld bought animals directly from the Iki Island slaughter. More recently (2001) SeaWorld Orlando provided Hong Kong's Ocean Park with California sea lions and harbor seals. In this they created a professional relationship with a park that purchases animals from the drive. So SW is indirectly supporting it. I have sources for all of this. Just ask I'll pm them.

@michmike15 DC is not as big as it looks. I just don't think dolphins are meant to be captive- nor are whales. They are too large and too intelligent and above all else being in a concrete pool is torture for them because their sonar bounces off all over the concrete in there.
-
@ZharekRaldeesh I am going to confine you in my basement for 20 years and send down a few trainers everyday to play with you. Are you fine with that?
-
@michmike15 No. The institutions that study dolphins that rank best do not capture them and do not keep them confined to captivity nor do they make them do stupid tricks for tourists. If any of these dolphin swim businesses cared about the dolphins they would be leading boycotts of Japan for everything except tsunami relief. But they don't. Why? Because many of them buy their dolphins from these evil Japs that run them. Discovery Cove has had dolphins die from colliding in mid air doing stunts.
-
After conducting the research, Discovery Cove's treatment of dolphins ranks among the best in the U.S. I would ask the critical posters on this site to list others that might be better. This would be a public service. There is no link between the slaughter of dolphins in Japan and this organization. Moreover, I would ask the critical posters to list the dolphin swim organizations that are speaking out against the practices in Japan...I don't see anybody doing it.
-
@kingofallwhites I would ask you to investigate the treatment of the animals we torture prior to killing them for food (grain fed beef vs grass fed beef) and also the puppy industry...after carefully examining what they are doing at DC, I'm convinced that many pets and most food based animals are treated much, much worse and should be placed much higher on your/our priority list. As an outside issue, what are your feelings on the reef at DC? Do tropical fish have rights or only dolphins
-
@XpoldingToast I agree. What kind of "awareness" are they really bringing when there is absolutely no mention of the holocaust that Japan is committing against dolphins and whales on an ongoing basis?
Im going there on July 6!!! AHHHHH!!!!!!!
