Suicide bombings, roadside ambushes, and improvised explosive device attacks. The turbulent events engulfing war-ravaged Afghanistan cannot be resolved unless the problems in neighboring, nuclear-armed Pakistan are addressed, that according to Malou Innocent, a foreign policy analyst at the Cato Institute, who visited Pakistan late last year to get a better sense of how developments within Pakistan shape its foreign policy toward the United States.

America's embrace and subsequent abandonment of Pakistan and Afghanistan in the 1980s left an environment ripe for the rise of the Taliban, which provided aid and comfort to the al Qaeda organization responsible for terror attacks on the United States in 2001.

Understanding the legacy of the Soviet-Afghan War, and how its aftermath strained relations between Washington and Islamabad, can shed light of ways to move forward in Afghanistan today, and extricate U.S. troops from this volatile part of the world.

  • The way Pakistan have been obeying USA since 1947 it must be given the status of a sovereign US state & US must implement its rules of justice equality & rule of law. Only then can Pakistan come out of the financial crisis its caught in & be able to return all the loans US/IMF/W.B have loaned so far. Political filth trying to destroy Pakistan must positively be kicked out & people will at all cost pay whatever is due in terms of loan. All steps of destroying a common man must be banned at once.

  • Tell us some we don't know. Can't believe this going to be published

  • this was a history session, nothing about the relationship today.

  • True very true

  • Umm could that be she's a conservative/libertarian?

I only choose to mention 100% accurate solid facts, blame games are grossly immature and get people nowhere.

As for Biblical prophesies, you'd think people would take heed to Holy Scripture, instead tens of millions of Evangelicals, and followers of other religious tenets, desperately back up catastrophic US foreign policies in hope, theyll one day realize their religious beliefs. (a guaranteed disaster recipe for humanity as a whole)

Blame who you choose, but it was written in the Bible over 3,000 years ago, so it was going to happen. Understand that, and the whole picture gets clearer.

  • She is right that the events must be viewed in the context of 1979 international politics and intelligence. Even with that in mind, Malou still extends criticism, as we all do in hind sight.

The biggest lesson, which we repeatedly fail to learn, is that the US can never maintain a war or police action because of the elective turn over inherent in our system. Elections instill in us a historical and political ADHD that should cause us to move forward very cautiously.

  • The CIA and the Israeli Mosad, together had subservient oil rich Saudi Arabia, export billions of petrodollars and radical Islamic ideology to the entire Arab and Islamic world to counter communist encroachment on US interests.

Free thinkers, atheists and socialists throughout Middle East n Muslim world were made to vanish, to be replaced by 7th century Islamic theocrats. Sadly the Middle East will continue to suffer the wrath of CIA engineered Islamic radicalization for generations to come.

  • Hottie.
