  • Is it possible to get the music on a CD?

  • There are not many people I would use the word genius for but George Eliot was one of them. Middlemarch in my opinion, is the finest novel ever written.

  • Amen to that, the most powerful closing sentence I have ever read (with the possible exception of the closing sentence of "Lolita").

Here's my personal favourite, from "Adam Bede":

Human feeling is like the mighty rivers that bless the earth: it does not wait for beauty--it flows with resistless force and brings beauty with it.

  • You missed my favorite of hers: Her full nature, like that river of which Cyrus broke the strength, spent itself in channels which had no great name on the earth. But the effect of her being on those around her was incalculably diffusive: for the growing good of the world is partly dependent on unhistoric acts; and that things are not so ill with you and me as they might have been, is half owing to the number who lived faithfully a hidden life, and rest in unvisited tombs.
