Oprah Winfrey shows her genius with David Letterman and reps for black women quite well.

The list of most powerful black women includes:
Oprah Winfrey
Condoleeza Rice
Cathy Hughes of BET
Wendy Williams from WBLS

There are many others on the list, which can be found in Ebony and Essence Magazine, as well as BET (Black Entertainment Television). Other notables might include Jada Pinkett Smith, wife of black star Will Smith, Alicia Keys, Tina Turner, Queen Latifah, and more. The black celebs power list would include Don Cheadle, Samuel L. Jackson, Laurence Fishburn, Cuba Gooding Jr., Halle Berry, Eddie Murphy, Denzel Washington, Tyler Perry (House of Payne, which isn't a very good show by the way).

In all their forms, these actors remind us of the importance of black love, african american achievement, and black success. The notion that they can take the place of black leaders such as Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, Cornel West, Dr. Boyce Watkins, Michael Eric Dyson or Marc Lamont Hill is remote. However, black hollywood has always been a place to look for the leading figures in the African American communuity. At least it's better than the hip hop and bootie shaking they show on BET!

  • Oprah.. South africa is NOT "AFRICA" now when you say african women are classified as second citizens that is not right because "AFRICA" is a continent not a big country..! What ur doing there is great but never mix up that.. since each country in africa has its own values, culture and they are very different

  • He's just like all the other ignorant Americans out there who have no idea how to wrap there mind around the fact of Africa being much more than their little America.

  • @johnnytheprick i cant put a link here to the website. but go online type in oprah winfrey school and the first one will be the website for the school. then you can look up the scandals too. i have the link but it wont let me put it

  • @johnnytheprick okay, most people (not only those in hollywood) go on diets. and yea she gave people cars cause she can afford it. she isnt trying to probe anything to anybody. she doesnt act like she is this almighty person so stop acting like she does. seriously what is your problem with her??

  • @nessie4215 she may never have said it, but she sure as hell acts like it. giving studio audiences cars! for goodness sake. of course she amazing and doesnt care about appearance (how mnay diets has she been on now?)

like i wrote before: please point me to a source, a link, anything.

  • @nessie4215 sweety, its "cos" cause is an entirely different word. being a builder, id say it would probably cost around 2,000 US dollars and about 500 US dollars per year to run.

i dont have a problem with girls other than its ONLY for girls. what about the uneducated boys? dont they have the right to an education as well?

  • @johnnytheprick ALSO, she never said she was a saint or anything of that nature. she is oprah and she knows that. what i think is amazing is that you are trying to find any way you can to tear her down. she is truly doing a great thing so just deal with it. and as for the school. it is real. look it up if you want to. cant believe you honestly do not know about it

  • @johnnytheprick i have to reply on this comment cause it wont let me reply to the other. first it is cause which is short for because. second do you know what it costs to build a school keep it running and afford all the necessary materials?? and who says she is using products from over there. maybe she is getting them from america you dont know. third, what is up with you and girls?? yes, the school is for girls which is good. it is giving them opportunities that they wouldnt have otherwise

  • @Adaeze611 haha this made me laugh

  • @nessie4215 firstly, its "cos" not "cause". secondly, she did not build the school. she wouldve hired contractors to do the work. thirdly, can you point me to the article that confirms the scandal?

you are correct, oprah is not god, yet she claims to be our saviour. as for "alot of money", at the time of writing, one RAND is worth 0.14750 US dollar.

you wrote: "she is doing an amazing thing helping those girls out " just girls? only one school? sounds like discrimination to me.

  • @johnnytheprick wow, clearly you dont know whats going on cause she has built the school and there was a scandal with the school and staff member. shows how much you know.

look, oprah is not God. she cant do it all. but yes, it does cost a lot of money no matter where the school is. she is doing an amazing thing helping those girls out where they would not be helped otherwise. the fact that you are looking for a reason to tear her down is ridiculous, she is doing a great thing.

  • @nessie4215 continued........

you wrote: "giving them the necessary materials and staff costs a lot of money.", once again, given the economic climate in africa, do you really believe the cost is significant? afterall, the US and many other nations have exploited 3rd world labour in the pursuit of the almighty dollar.

"let her start out doing this and then she will do more. " - show me confirmation of her initial proposal. note that this interview was done in 2008.
