  • I am a poor 1st kyu.... but I was expecting more from a 3rd Dan, expecially in Japan!

  • I've seen kyu's do better than these guys. *sigh*

  • Also, congratulations to the candidate if he passed. Regardless of any nay-sayers!

  • In response to the speed comments: In my experience, practicing at a controlled pace for hundreds or thousands of repetitions builds the foundations for very effective techniques at lightning quick speed when needed. In my dojo, we practice our kata at roughly the speed this gentleman was showing here, but I could confidently say that any student who has trained with me long enough knows that they could commit these actions VERY quickly.

    Chopstick test anyone??

  • is Iai-do supposed to be slow? i practice pretty fast-paced...

  • I was very happy to see "it"! deserved to have a master's degree just because it will power by trying! Too bad that martial arts do not graduate by Merit. to me you're a "master"!

  • Can someone explain what exactly they are doing here?

  • @nukious well emotion wont stop you from getting killed, no offense

  • @GutsLCF You're very right about everything said here. But the other thing that I would challenge you to think about is that this isn't a 4th Dan test.... No judges granted him the right to be a sensei. Also, there's a big difference between 3rd dan and 4th dan. That difference is larger then most people think. Just like there's a really big difference between 7th and 8th.

  • @cacheec Speed does not guarantee victory. It's best to dominate the opponent into submission right? Then you will have all the time in the world and speed won't matter. It's called Ki, spirit and force, pressure. presence, and the will to survive against all odds. If you're mind is not prepared to fight to the death in an instant then ya best stay home or take up soccer.

  • @ruteisabelmendes Agreed.

  • @ShotokanBleach Kendo, Kobudo, Karate are all about motion... Iaido is emotion.
