Our conversion division, Gas To Electric, harnesses our passion for implementing state-of-the-art electric vehicle technology and allows us to do our part for the environment while still doing what we love to do. Over the thirty days of September 2009 we spent our time converting a 2009 Ford Ranger, which is featured below, into a fully-electric vehicle for the City of Santa Monica.
Press Release:
GAS TO ELECTRIC ANNOUNCES THE AVAILABILITY OF A COMPLETE KIT FOR THE CONVERSION OF FORD RANGERS TO FULL ELECTRIC FOR MUNICIPALITY FLEETS
SANTA MONICA, CA - GAS TO ELECTRIC, INC. (G2E) announces the completion of a light duty truck conversion kit. The kit is designed for Ford Rangers to become an all-electric alternative that is ideally suited for the needs of local municipalities. G2E is focused on providing solutions for municipalities to decrease their fleet dependence on fossil fuel burning vehicles. Converting multi-use vehicles to electric will allow maintenance, landscape , facilities, and parks & recreation departments to lower their carbon footprint and decrease their operational expenses. G2E has converted a light-duty Ford Ranger to an all-electric vehicle that is ideally suited for the municipality market. As a medium range, 50-mph vehicle, it can be used on all surface streets. The company has applied a traditional factory production model for the conversion process, thus reducing the entry level cost for a municipality to begin the greening of its fleet in a cost-effective and expeditious manner.
ABOUT THE FOUNDER G2E was founded in 2009 by Santa Monica native Paul Pearson. Pearson began his love affair with unique and unusual cars working with George Barris, the creator of the original Batmobile. From his entries in the Carrera Panamericana, a sports car racing event on open roads in Mexico, to his latest entry in the Red Bull Soap Box Derby, Pearson has created a vast library of wild and outrageous vehicles. His latest creative vision, the LOLA, is an all-electric custom vehicle that has its roots in the design styles of Enzo Ferrari and the practicality of Henry Ford. An electric car enthusiast, Pearson has owned or built four all-electric vehicles. He frequently is seen driving around Santa Monica, promoting electric vehicle use with his two dogs, as he waves to the adoring fans of his banana yellow roadster with red flames. A lifelong machinist, model maker, welder, entrepreneur, and prop-maker for such famous movies as Ghost, Eraser, Terminator, Waterworld, and Starship Troopers, along with television shows such as Star Trek Next Generation, Babylon Five, and four seasons of 24. Pearson has built, from the ground up, his own California Highway Patrol approved neighborhood electric vehicle (NEV), the Grasshopper, which he uses daily in Santa Monica. Hi I have a question. I'm planning to convert my 1993 GMC 4X4 SO to full electric and i was thinking of merging a 12v solar panel on top of it (with its own battery charge controller) to charge the batteries when not in use or while running. is that doable? Of course the batteries are going to charger one by one. what do you think and recommend?
