  • Is this available on video or DVD by any chance? So far it seems a good production...and with Sir Thomas in it, it's definitely a bonus! =)

  • no unfortunately you can't by it anywhere...

  • I know for a fact this was on DVD at amazon at one point but it's not there anymore. Might have to do some digging on ebay or something.

  • when was that?

  • @cantanteporsiempre I agree--you can't hear the words, and she also does not articulate all the notes cleanly either.

  • She's the only one who is rather weak in this production. Her tremolo is far too strong.

However, I heard her as Salome once and she was fabulous.

  • A few months ago, I was browsing looking for a version of figaro and decided on a 1993 performance with bryn terfel/allison hagley/rodney gilfry/hillevi martinpelto. However I distinctly remember this furlanetto/upshaw version being around $40 or so.

  • I don´t like this Countess sorry

  • What a shame...the whole production with its great cast is an absolute gem. =) Thanks for posting it up!

  • long live mozart

  • What my theory is for her darkness is her environment. She's Russian so I think that would have an effect on how she talks, which leads to how she sings.

  • I agree, its just a bit to covered and dark for my tastes but not terrible persay. in my opinion.

  • well then i guess u go sing if u got the voice...u shldn't critisize ppl who got guts to sing lik dat

  • One more comment: Although my absolute favourite COntessa is Dame Te Kanawa, her voice is not as dark as Ms.Kazarnovskaya hear. However, the Full Lyric Soprano is a rather more mature sounding voice.

  • I completely agree with you about Netrebko being Susanna. Have you seen some other clips of that production. It is so horrible it makes me sick! As for Ms.Kazarnovskaya, I think she does an OK job, no my favourite, but she is just fine.

  • not horrible, just a different voice to what we're used to as the countess. HELLO - netrebko has recorded the role, that is truly horrible, not like here where its a darkish voice asked to float up gracefully and decrescendo to a top C! It's not in the least easy to do.

  • I don't think her voice is weak, but maybe a tad too dark.

  • What a horrible Contessa! What a weak voice!!!!

  • this scene needs two bigger sopranos!

  • I am a bit of a fan of sir Thomas, but he was really in dreadful voice here. By the way in the pit is the Vienna Philharmonic, conductor Bernard Haitink.

  • Thanks so much for posting, love both singing and acting!

  • Ljuba Kazarnovskaya has a bit too heavy voice to play the countess

  • Oh I know how you feel! Mozart is like a best friend who comes bringing complete consolation at the worse of times...
