Michael Jackson Tribute - Oona & Olivia Narvaez

Since 3 years of age Oona collects everything Michael Jackson and continues to practice learning his dance moves. At age 7 this is her first experience with any significant loss in her life. Oona's been in love and wanted to marry with Michael Jackson.

How a child learns to deal with loss as a child will largely impact the way they deal with loss as an adult.

Children who are supported in their grief are: * 5 times less likely to complete suicide (USDHHS, Bureau of Census * 10 times less likely to engage in substance abuse (Rainbows for all God's Children, UK) * 20 times less likely to develop behavioral disorders (Center for Disease Control, US)

We "inner-view" with Oona's mother, Olivia, who works at the Center for Grieving Children in El Paso, Texas. During the National Alliance for Grieving Children's 13th Symposium, in Long Beach, CA, the news hit around the world that Michael Jackson had died. Olivia shares how her daughter has been losing sleep trying to understand what is death and the loss of a loved one. While MJ was not a close family friend, Oona has lost her dream to one day marry her idol.

During our "inner-view" Olivia shares tips on how to be with grieving children. The number one rule is to be honest with them while helping them understand what it means when someone we love dies.
