Landmarks of the Old Oregon Country in "Fort Vancouver: The Inland Fur Trade" -- Episode 4, Part 1. Here, you are going to learn about Ft. Vancouver which is located on the North side of the Columbia River which later is Vancouver, WA. The buildings are rebuit on the same site as it did back in the 1840's. Like Ft. Clatsop, it uses interpeters to recreate the events as it happen back then. It was built and run back then by the Hudson's Bay Company from England. It is a place to trade for various items for the user needs. You will see what the site looks like and its uses. You will learn about who or what a "Chief Factor" is. Dr. John McLoughlin is head of it and also what they call the "Father of Oregon" and John Jacob Astor and the name "Astoria, OR" and Hudson's Bay competition. It operated there until 1849 when the company moved out of Ft. Vancouver.
