Here I'm doing another side job for a customer. Customer complains that vehicle over heated once, and that vehicle seems to have a coolant leak from radiator. Upon inspection of vehicle, I found that the vehicle was pushing coolant out of the overflow tank, and showed possible early signs of a bad head gasket. Performed leak down test on all cylinders, and confirmed my diagnoisis of a BHG. Video shows engine torn down! Enjoy!

  • how often should we change these as preventative maintenance?

  • @NguyenEmpir3 Only when the head gasket fails on the vehicle.

  • @civicboy123 What are the symptoms of head gasket failure?

  • @oldtilter Usually on the Honda's it'll start pushing coolant out the overflow bottle.

  • Nice job! Our 01 Civic EX (156k) was done at dealer a month ago. Coolant recovery tank kept overflowing. Dealer then used regular green coolant (cheap crap) with hg job. Had to flush, drain and refill multiple times with Type II premix to reach correct concentration. This month bearing went out on the AC compressor, suspect belt was overtightened speeding bearing failure. Had it replaced at an indy shop. Been an expensive month for our Civic. Wish I knew a guy like you, hard to find.

  • @faxmen09 These MLS gaskets that Honda use are super thin, and are very easy to blow if you over heat the engine. I just did an 03 the other day, and I used a Graphite head gasket, and car runs excellent. I just perfer the Graphite gaskets over the MLS gaskets. Graphite gaskets seal better, but MLS gaskets dont deteriorate over time like the Graphite gaskets do and tend to last longer if the car isn't over heated.

  • @ civicboy123 question for u, there is an oil leak at corner of head, it appears to be coming from headgasket itself on passenger side and it runs down onto bellhousing, what do u think the issue maybe? on a 2000 gsr

  • No it is the design and complexity of the car. One problem leads to many more. Fan stops working, engine burns up. Cat clogs, engine burns up. One gauge stops working, have to replace all of them. I will take simplicity any day. My C10 is very dependable & has been. My Honda has been one problem after another. Am still f**king with it to this day trying to get everything to work right. Dont overheat an aluminum engine or will most likely be buying a new engine. Cast iron will take alot of abuse.

  • @journeyquest1 So you equate having something bad happen to the car being junk? I bet your C10 had plenty of work done when it was newer.

  • @MrRichierich1990 I don't think there is a single engine manufacturer that hasn't had certain problems.

  • @chevyblows2001 he probly had a cold air intake on it and it sucked up the water from out side or found its way into the block anothet way well driveing
