I now have asked a professional captioner to make a better version, a far better version. They can be ordered on ebay -

PLANS - http://i32.tinypic.com/28ku054.jpg

An apple press I made for pressing apples for some home made cider.

Before you start Sterilize everything.

Step 1: Collect apples
Step 2: Pulp them (I used a food processor)
Step 3: Press them
Step 4: Add a crushed Camden tablet to the wort (apple juice) to kill natural yeast and bacteria
Step 5: Measure the gravity and record it (this will be used to work out how strong it is)
Step 6: Wait 24 hours for the Camden to finish its work
Step 7: Siphon into a Demi John
Step 8: Add your own yeast (Beer, cider and wine yeast all work)
Step 9: Put on airlock
Step 10: Wait for your cider to be ready - from 1 week to half a year depending on the yeast.

Each 25 liters of cider has a variable cost of £2! :D

  • How many tons of pressure has the press and which wood did you use?

  • @MHerzbube It has a 2 ton jack, I cannot use the full force of this, I reckon it could take just over 1 ton. Which is enough for a small amount of apples, of course the thicker and the higher quality of wood could use more.

That wood is just some thin construction timber, very cheap stuff.

  • Foil is a definite no-no for apple juice, as are most metals, excepting food grade stainless steel

  • @amancalledconor That is food grade foil... as I suspect all foil is. Plus the juice did only touch it for seconds and the cider tastes superb :D

  • Yeah man i'll check it out, i didn't make any last year, apparantely they accidentally made it about 20% so people were ratted after one bottle, have you got your own apple trees on the premises?

  • @nicelad20 Haha ye we have 5 quite infected apple trees. The cider I produced was 6.5% then I "watered" it down with apple juice to 4.2% and is lush

  • Cool vid glad i had the sound off

  • Nice dog.

  • this would be great with out the retarded poetry shit and maybe some narration along with the captions

  • That's cool Ben, need to try this out for the next season-plenty of apples to use up!

  • (0.0) about the music

  • @nellaxela

    3) Brackets, I did make my self. These were later reinforced with bolts running the hole length of the wood and then though the bracket as well, meaning I could but about a ton of pressure on my apples :D Would assume the super long bolt thing may mean that home made brackets are not needed and you could just use some basic ones from B&Q just to add more strength.
