Our Trebuchet Launches an Exploding Pumpkin

We have recently tried filling pumpkins with gas, using a diesel and gas soaked rag for a fuse, lighting it, and then launching from our trebuchet. It concludes with a nice little mushroom cloud.

what did you use for your counter weight? im building a treb about this size but i dont know what to use for the counter weight. also, did you use the 133 to 1 ratio( that is the weight if the counter weight is 133 times the weight of the projectile) for your counter weight?

@400person I just built a box and filled it with sand and some weights from a weight bench. I never measured the weight, so I don't know what the ratio is. Also, the projectiles we use vary a lot in weight.

If I had to guess I'd say the weight is 300 or 400 pounds, though.

have you tried launching fire pots out of that you can make them out of a clay pot and

tar and some magnessium with black powder i suggest roffing tar

@wolvenblacktalon1 No I haven't. That would be fun, but pumpkins and gas work good enough and don't cost too much.

@MrLaurence007 Yes, I agree. Someday I would like to make one, but it will be expensive and time-consuming. It would be easy to make the hwacha itself, but making all the rocket-arrows would require a lot of black powder and a lot of time. Since I have a cannon, I usually do have a decent amount of black powder available, though.
