Although the constitution declares Malaysia to be a secular state, there is much confusion on this subject. Several Muslims have argued, especially after former Prime Minister Mahathir bin Mohamad's declaration that Malaysia is an Islamic state, that Malaysia is in actual fact an Islamic state. One Member of Parliament (MP), Badruddin bin Amiruldin, has stated in the Dewan Rakyat house of Parliament that "Malaysia ini negara Islam" ("Malaysia is an Islamic state") and that "you tidak suka, you keluar dari Malaysia!" ("You don't like it, you get out of Malaysia!") Badruddin refused to take back his statement, and a motion to refer him to the House Committee of Privileges was rejected by a voice vote. [4] However, the first Prime Minister, Tunku Abdul Rahman, contradicted this stance in the 1980s, saying, "All talk on Islamic States is just an empty dream. No man in his right sense would accept a nation which bases its political administration on religion, and in a country like Malaysia with its multi-racial and multi-religious people, there is no room for an Islamic State."

Dato' Paduka Haji Badruddin bin Amiruldin: Membebel macam hendak beranak sahaja!

Timbalan Yang di-Pertua [Datuk Lim Si Cheng]: Baiklah. Apa......

Dato' Haji Che Min bin Che Ahmad: Islam Hadhari.

Tuan Lim Kit Siang: Tidak boleh makan, derma mahu gila-gila.

Dato' Paduka Haji Badruddin bin Amiruldin: Ehh, Malaysia ini negara Islam. You tidak suka, you keluar dari Malaysia! [Dewan riuh-rendah dengan pertelingkahan beberapa Ahli Yang Berhormat]

Cik Fong Po Kuan: [Menjerit]

Seorang Ahli: Oii! Samseng duduk!

Timbalan Yang di-Pertua [Datuk Lim Si Cheng]: Yang Berhormat.....

Cik Fong Po Kuan: Yang Berhormat, ini mana boleh cakap macam itu. [Dewan masih riuh-rendah dengan pertelingkahan]

Beberapa Ahli: [Menyampuk]

Seorang Ahli: You get out! This is Malaysia!

Seorang Ahli: Keluar dari Malaysia.

Dato' Paduka Haji Badruddin bin Amiruldin: ......tempat dilahirkan. Ini Malaysia, buli kami.

Timbalan Yang di-Pertua [Datuk Lim Si Cheng]: Yang Berhormat Jerai, Yang Berhormat....

Dato' Paduka Haji Badruddin bin Amiruldin: Kalau tidak suka, awak keluar dari sini. [Dewan gamat seketika]

  • @BotakChinPeng Grateful of the past have nothing to do with the current development of Malaysia and for wanting equality. If being grateful is what you speak of. Shouldn't everyone be grateful of each race's contribution to the country. And mind your words on Chinese and Indian being Coolies of Malays. Chinese and Indian worked for the BRITISH. not the Malays.

  • @investingclub do not forget sabah and sarawak are also part of malaysia...and these people are not malay

  • @dayak2iban2borneo Actually, Sarawak does not really have racial unity at all. I know a lot of Chinese who categorize Malays and Ibans as 'Lakiangs' which is basically the Foochow version of Nigger.

  • @1988bujang

    aku setuju dgn hang...

  • @investingclub the prosperity which Malaysia currently enjoy is the effort of all the Malaysian Dayak Sabah & Sarawak Iban,Bidayuh,Kayan,Kenyah,Melanau,Murut,Orang Ulu,Bisaya,Berawan. This is the fact that most of West Malaysia Malays,Chinese & Indians do not know..Peace ..\/.

We Sabah & Sarawak had work hard to develop Malaysia since 1963!

  • Melayu isn't the first to stay in this land.....

it was the orang asli and the bumiputra of sarawak and sabah who actually here since the land appeared.

then comes the melayu from indonesia and chinese from china and then the indian who were brought in by the chinese tycoon hundred years ago....

    but this doesn't matter....

the malaysian must work together like they used to be, and must not be fool by politicians.
