Actually, it would be less than 50%, people tend to pray for things that are not realistic, expected or considered ordinary.

Religion is utter crud, the suggestion that there is a deity listening to your pleas only adds to the pile.

i read about that in a few different places. a few times on the internet, in The God Delusion, in Breaking The Spell, and, i think, in God Is Not Great. it is an often cited study.

apparently the rate of recovery is the same if god was there as would be if he wasn't. that is telling.

Also, I've read a study where there were 3 groups. One who was not prayed for and not told, one who was prayed for and not told, and one who was prayed for and told... there was no difference in percentage of recovery for group one and two, but the third group actually had worse results, theorized to be because of anxiety to get better, thinking that the prayers should be working. But that's just one study, of course there are the christian study's that say "OMG 51% of prayer worked in ours!"

right, it probably is roughly 50%... not because gods up there answering prayers but because on an average that would be the mortality chance. Sometimes it'll creep down to 10% or at high as 90% that someone will live. The point is there's absolutely no evidence it works, common sense says its silly, and also says that it doesn't seem to fit the type of god that Christians worship, an all merciful, loving god... but he favors those occasionally who pray over equally deserving people?

prayer has the same success rate as any superstition. some say that is 50% but really it is inconsistent. the rate of prayers being fulfilled is random.
