ZHANG:
For seven-and-a-half years, Falun Gong practitioners in Vancouver, Canada, have maintained a round-the-clock vigil outside the Chinese consulate to raise awareness about what they say is a genocide. After a court injunction ordered the structure to be evicted, practitioners are calling for the site to be kept until the appeal is heard.

STORY:
Vancouver Falun Gong practitioners are scrambling to save their protest site at the Chinese consulate. More than fifty practitioners and public figures gathered together at a rally and press conference on Wednesday a few days after the city ordered the site to be shut down.

Falun Dafa spokesperson Sophia Bronwen says this site is a window for revealing the crimes against humanity committed by the Chinese Communist Party.

[Sophia Bronwen, Falun Dafa Assn. Spokesperson]:
This site sends a clear message to China and the world. Genocide will not be tolerated.

Lawyer for Falun Gong practitioners Clive Ansley, says that this is not a technical, legal, issue involving the correct interpretation of a bylaw. This is a protest against genocide.

[Clive Ansley, Falun Gong Lawyer]:
This is a protest of conscience against the most diabolical and fiendish form of torture practiced on this planet.

Many of the speakers believe the seven-year-old protest site is important because of the message it sends out.

[Dale Jackaman, Politician, Forensic Expert]:
This site is a visible reminder to all Canadians if not the world that we can and do stand up to tyranny, oppression censorship, something far more important than the enforcement of this sidewalk usage bylaw.

Vancouver Falun Gong practitioners say that even if the hut and billboards are removed, they will still continue their peaceful vigil 24/7. They will stay until the persecution of Falun Gong ends in China, because their fellow practitioners dont have a voice.

  • Recently it was uncovered that our former mayor Sullivan was in collusion with the communist regime when he forged this ridiculous bylaw banning protest around the

communist regimes embassy. It's no secret that Sullivan has a thing for communist china and in my view the man deserves to be in a wheel chair. Oh, and Sullivan, admitted to aiding a drug addict to buy heroin. I think the man needs psychological help and had no business in the mayors office...EVER.

  • What's the difference between the nazis killing the jews in WW2

and the communist party in 2010 ?

Some people in western countries are helping the evil communist party in 2010. The full truth will be revealed when the evil regime is gone. I think people should be liable for assisting very serious human rights abuses.

Vancouver could have changed its law to allow demonstrations like this against very serious human rights abuses, but they chose not to.
