@Armydicked Not so ancient, really. Plus, a number of groups continue to use it, using converters or modems to transmit landline telegraphic code on phone lines or the internet. I am part of one group highlighting women telegraphers of the 19th Century(Morse did not send the first message, btw, a woman did).

@teamfab Yo' "Jesus-Freaque'; you want to stay on topic---this thread is about an ancient technology called the Telegraph, Your sentence is so moronic that it took me hours trying to decipher it. LET'S BLAME GOD for todays problems?!!GOD (if he even exists...for argument's sake, let's pretend he does) WROUGHT a PERFECT Planet and a PERFECT system (universe). He created an insect called MAN that poisons the planet and kills off other lifeforms. God needs to drown us again--boom, no problems!!

@Arabhacks W-R-O-N-G!!! Hominids have been conducting long distance comminications since about the Iron Age (drums, smoke signals, flaming arrows, heliographs (sun mirrors) etc. As far as the Telegraph goes, there were TWO types of telegraph systems, OPTICAL and Electric. The French pioneered the OPTICAL Telegraph service in 1794 and Napolean built and employed telegraph stns all throughout Europe (Some of his famous battles were won because of Optical Telegraph communications)!!!

The telegraph started out electric, not electronic.
Although the first devices would print onto a ribbon of paper this proved unreliable, not that it mattered, one can easily listen to it and decode this by ear.
The telegraph was quickly replaced by the telephone in all but ship board operations.
In fact, although the Titanic had a very advanced telephone system on board, the distress call, and all communications off the ship were handled by telegraph operators.
