http://www.ted.com iPad storyteller Joe Sabia introduces us to Lothar Meggendorfer, who created a bold technology for storytelling: the pop-up book. Sabia shows how new technology has always helped us tell our own stories, from the walls of caves to his own onstage iPad.

TEDTalks is a daily video podcast of the best talks and performances from the TED Conference, where the world's leading thinkers and doers give the talk of their lives in 18 minutes. Featured speakers have included Al Gore on climate change, Philippe Starck on design, Jill Bolte Taylor on observing her own stroke, Nicholas Negroponte on One Laptop per Child, Jane Goodall on chimpanzees, Bill Gates on malaria and mosquitoes, Pattie Maes on the "Sixth Sense" wearable tech, and "Lost" producer JJ Abrams on the allure of mystery. TED stands for Technology, Entertainment, Design, and TEDTalks cover these topics as well as science, business, development and the arts. Closed captions and translated subtitles in a variety of languages are now available on TED.com, at http://www.ted.com/translate.

  • Fun and different. (Not sure what people are freaking out about.)

  • i still prefer books.

  • I loved his confidence and the way he used his iPad to his advantage was so great.

  • Excellent talk!

  • Oh my god. A TED talker our age?!?!?

  • Good work

  • LAME! WTF he's so excited about?????

  • A quick scan through the comments illustrates that @papasitoman and @lvldsnr are not alone in dismissing this TEDTalk, but I think they may be missing the point. Perhaps it belong in TEDTalks "Light", but Sabia's brevity seems to acknowledge this. On the other hand this digital story offers a quick, effective glimpse at a new frontier of storytelling. Sabia opens the door unpretentiously and demonstrates in less than four minutes what powerful new tools are at storytellers' disposal.

  • i initially thought this was amir..
