@blowfish3 after seeing the movie i did a schoolreport on it and my teacher was amazed i knew the story (actually the report was an ecxuse to learn more about it) and yes the movie was indeed showing them of like heroes while the book portraits them as human beings who did an amazing thing
im amazed not many people know the story!

I am amazed by the commentary of the director, saying that they didn't have to invent or make up anything to make the film exciting, given just how many of the events in the film and the interactions of the characters were made up. I read the book after seeing the film, and was glad I did. The film is good drama and inspiring in its way, but the true story is quite different and the Bielski brothers and the other partisans were in fact even more admirable than the film portrays them.

Oh for the love of god... Ignorance aside, yes, this is a movie worth watching. No, it's not the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth. The cinema is the fool's library, and anyone who relies on Hollywood to provide them with hystorical facts should be ashamed of themselves.
But what bugs me most is how people keep turning this sort of stuff into discussions on unrelated matters. For fuck sake, they're saying this stuff so you go and watch the movie! It's not a zionist conspiracy
