Follows the storm from Kansas to the Atlantic. This caused lots of damage across a wide area and killed one person. It has been somewhat inaccurately called an "inland hurricane", and you can see the "eye" form as it moves from Missouri to Illinois. There are a number of videos about this storm on YouTube, including live video shot during and after the storm, and another of my radar animations that covers this and other derechos over a series of days in May, 2009.
A discussion of the content of the video and what went into making it are at http://egb13.net/2010/10/follow-the-storm-8-may-09

Very nice video. I live in Southern Illinois and will NOT forget that storm.

Well, "inland hurricanes" aren't true hurricanes only in the sense that they do not form over tropical bodies of water. But in all other aspects, including the tendency to form something of an eye, they could be considered a type of subtropical hurricane. They don't really need names, though, since they don't last as long. But they have everything else, especially the wind.

Fascinating to see the storm move across the country like that. Thanks for letting "ominous hope" ride the wind.
