Of all his many, many recordings, this has a really special meaning for me. Love the folk song anyhow, yes the orchestration is a bit MGM...nevertheless, he does EXACTLY what it says on the folk ballad tin - he makes you feel the poetry of the song. Next time I'm coming back as a counter-tenor or high tenor...there'd be SO MUCH WORK!

It is too sweet and the music is to thick. It seems as if Scholl didn't rely completely to his voice that is why he needs this voluminous sound. I admit that I have been listening Deller's version the whole day long so I am a little bit too prepossessed for him but the comparison to Deller's rendition suggests that to me.
