Will it run now? I cleaned the contact between the points and the block. It seem to cure most of the problem as there was corroded aluminium from the engine block which caused ground problems. I got decent spark right away, and the new condenser helped too. I did not try to run it with the original magneto coil since the spark was very weak, but that was before the points and condenser was fixed, it might be ok.

The light bulbs acts as resistors, because the coil is allmost a dead short, and will probably burn the points in just a couple of minutes.
Seems to be quite responsive now, compared to what it used to be, idles really nice too!

The engine does have an "alternator" which generates about 8V AC at medium engine speed (governor). If rectified to DC voltage it should be enough to power the coil or even charge a small 6V battery, but I have not tested the current (Amperage) output.

  • i have this engine too, and it don't start. and have no spark. i think the condenser is discharged, how i can recharge it ( sorry for my bad english i'm italian )

  • @febeo92 The condenser is not a battery, if its bad you have to replace it. However, I could not find a replacement that fit under the flywheel, so I had to remove the old one, and attach a new "universal" on the stop wire (and to ground). Check\clean points first, they are usually the culprit, next condenser and then magneto\coil. It seems this engine has a common problem for weak\loss of spark. It can be many reasons to it.

  • What is the coil from that you are using? I have a 230v generator that uses the kf34 engine and have no spark.

  • @PugPunkRock Its a normal cheap automotive dry-type coil, its a heavy load for the points so it requires a resistor to limit current trough the points (light bulbs). I bought it at our local generic auto parts store (biltema).
