I'm an American. And you have no idea what you are talking about. I go to Willamette National Cemetery every week, and take care of 14 graves because they have no more family out there. I also bring flowers to 2 of my friends graves because they died well. And I will never forget them. The US may not be the best country. But there are still some of us who stand by our soldiers sides.

one of the hardest things for a soldier to do is go back into civilian life.

The lack of action and being with your comrades that would give their lives for one another. Hence why so many turn to drugs and alcohol do deal with the problems.

Being in the military is rather simple compared to civilian life some times so it is hard for some to cope.

I am glad those brave legionnaires have such a nice place to go to.

Regarding pay in the Legion, it depends on where you are - you get less in France and the worse the conditions the more they pay. You're basically paid on risk - the guys working in Africa right now are making 3-4 K (Euro) per month, for a Legionaire. This according to the Legion recruiting site. If they're in 2 Rep, they get more than 2REI, but everyone at 2Rep MUST jump - paper shufflers, potato peelers, floor sweepers, even officers must jump to stay in the unit. Very few chair polishers.

too bad the Legion pays $250 a week, and Canada pays almost $40 k a year.
