The Hillsborough Disaster was a human crush that occurred on 15 April 1989 at Hillsborough, a football stadium, the home of Sheffield Wednesday F.C. in Sheffield, England, resulting in the deaths of 96 people, all fans of Liverpool F.C. It remains the deadliest stadium-related disaster in British history and one of the worst in international football. It was the second of two stadium-related disasters involving Liverpool supporters, the other being the Heysel Stadium Disaster in 1985.

The match was an FA Cup semi-final tie between Liverpool and Nottingham Forest. It was abandoned six minutes into the game.

The inquiry into the disaster, the Taylor Report, named the cause as failure of police control, and resulted in the conversion of many football stadiums in the United Kingdom to all-seater and the removal of barriers at the front of stands.

  • damn this guy knew right off what the problem was.... justice for the 96

  • @CityGent88 that's a lie, your disaster gets a mention just as much as hillsboorugh, and in the end it doesn't matter, they are both tragic, R.I.P to both sets of people who died in the disaster.

  • They never walk alone ? Yes now they walk nowhere

  • Every time I see anything about hillsborough it gives me cold chills.I was only 8 at the time but I remember that day vividly as sadly the numbers rose from 21 t0 56 and eventually 95 lives lost.Eventually of course 96 lives were unnecessarily lost.I feel so sorry for all the families and friends of the loved ones who lost their lives at a football match. It never should have happened.I'm a Manchester United fan but a tragedy like this transcends football allegiance.R.I.P to the 96.

  • J.F.T. 96.......

  • Rip you'll never walk alone

  • @bigadda1969 I understand what you're saying mate but dont be too hard. When fans first started spilling on to the pitch, nobody knew exactly what was going on. The commentator here is Graham Beecroft who used to work for Radio Merseyside and Radio City. He loves scousers, commentated on both Liverpool & Everton games in the 80s & has no axe to grind with football fans on merseyside. He lost two of his friends in this disaster too, although at the time of his commentary, he was unaware of this.

  • WORSE FOR DRINK/// TEN YR OLD KIDS DIED HERE FUCKIN BBC SCUM

  • TBF tho how was the commentator supposed to know at the time?

ppl stumbling around injured & struggling for breath could probably be mistaken for drunk if you weren't aware of the situation...
