60% of the time when Paul Rudd isn't smiling, it ruins the line every time. That break in character makes this scene so great b/c of the vulnerability on Rudd's face when he say's his line. Rudd makes good use of his eyes to counteract his cracking smile, and it helped with his delivery, too. Was it perfect? No way, but the movie is written about complete and utter nonsense which makes it so funny. It's what over-the-top anarchic and in-your-face slapstick comedy is all about.
