BASTARDS OF THE PARTY traces the development of black gangs in Los Angeles from the late 1940s all the through the 1990s, leading to the birth of the Crips and Bloods, to what evolved into hate crimes from both sides, as in the brutal beating of Rodney King by the Los Angeles Police Department. Additionally, the documentary features interviews with past and current gang members from both the Bloods and the Crips; LA historian Mike Davis; former FBI agent Wes Swearingen; and Geronimo Pratt (former Black Panther minister of defense), among others.
Director Cle Sloan, a long time gang member, is inspired by the necessity to educate others and tell stories that reveal the truth in everything, for it is only from education, will we see positive change in our lifetime and lifetimes to come.
