Harai is similar but different. One of the main differences being the orientation of the Uke, hip throw sweep enters from the side, harai goshi is from the front. Also, like I say if you turn the volume up, this is the worst hip throw sweep ever. I've had a persistent problem with driving my leg through ... which also is apparent in my harai goshi ...
Haha, I do Aikido as well, and I've never ever ever seen them do anything like a hip throw sweep. The only time that comes close in my memory was when I first started training with my Aikido group and sensei saw me start to turn something into a hip throw and he yelled at me.
Follow through with the sweep!!!!

They also use this throw in jiu jitsu, brazilian jiu jitsu, judo, and probably most other styles which involve grappling.
