Rick Shenkman is the editor and founder of George Mason University's History News Network, a website that features articles by historians on current events. An associate professor of history at George Mason University, he can regularly be seen on Fox News, CNN, and MSNBC. He is a New York Times best-selling author of five history books, including Legends, Lies & Cherished Myths of American History. His last book was Presidential Ambition: How the Presidents Gained Power, Kept Power and Got Things Done, which was published in 1999 by HarperCollins. His latest book is Just How Stupid Are We? Facing the Truth About the American Voter (Basic Book, June 2008).

mr shenkman i would like to find out your opinion on the fed. my studies thus far have lead me to believe that it was a scam on the american people and now the government would like to expand the power of the fed.

I happen to believe the Federal Reserve was an innovative answer to troubling economic problems. Having said that doesn't mean I agree that the Fed has always been wise. Though he goes overboard, economist Jim Powell rightly argues that central bankers often make mistakes.

The ratings were ok but not blockbuster. We planned for a season and that's what we did.

Mr Shenkman being as you are an expert on U.S. presidents. I like many other Americans feel as if our next president is being picked for us by the mass media. I would like to know how you feel a man like Dr. Paul or Ralph Nader would have faired up in the past? Also do you have a favorite horse in this election? Thank you
