These are the antennas that I use for my shortwave radio listening hobby and also the background music was composed by me with a Casio Keyboard using wave editing software Please understand that these pictures are just projects that are somewhat completed and some are completed. These small antennas do work pretty well for the shortwave radio hobby. The pics were from a webcam.

  • Look, I am sorry, but I am not able to put up an outdoor antenna as long as I live in this apartment. Housing is very expensive and it's hard to own one and maintain. I am looking for solutions on how to improve indoor reception as time goes by. I do own a KA-35 and I am working various antenna projects with it. Being on a tight budget isn't helping it either with this tough economy. Why don't you show your wire antennas to the world. 73.

  • radio antennas

  • car batteries

  • Yeah, the box that has 4 screws looks like a car battery, but its not. Its a ferrite rod antenna coupler for AM.

  • yes, they are radio antennas. But they are indoor antennas for indoor use. My camera was a webcam that took these low resolution photos. I wish I had a digital camera to take pictures of the outdoor antenna that I used. Being isolated in my apt. I miss my outdoor antennas.

  • @carl23401 This is exactly how I've learned (and radio forums). I wish I could get some wire up and out like some of you folks. I'm doing good to get 80' long and 25" high. Working on better mast atm. Wife gives me trouble about being a mad scientist LOL!

btw, sorry for thumbs down. I was going for the reply.

  • It looks like the box has 12 turns on either side. I'm guessing a 10mm rod. Maybe 16awg wire? Is this the primary coil or just to assist the antenna? I'm playing with xtal set SW sets at the moment. I live near Dallas. The best I can reach SW is Cuba and a station in Colorado. I get some retransmitted chinese stuff as well. Lots of religous stuff. Any help is greatly appreciated.

  • Eddie - you posted this 6 mos ago, so you may have picked up many pointers since. Best bets, early mornings and evenings. You can log navaids in the long wave band; you can listen in on the amateur bands, and any number of foreign stations. Use earphones or earbuds - an external antenna is a MUST!! For me the enjoyment is about trial and error and just exploring. When I hear something that piques my interest, I'll Google the frequency to learn about it (maybe). Be patient and have fun!

  • Hi there, I have a DX-398 and would love to listen to something interesting. I'm in DFW TX USA. I know how to operate the unit but not sure "where" to listen to. I only understand English. I seem to only find a sermon or other languages. Would enjoy some aircraft, ships, heck, anything. Can you tell me when and where to listen? I sure would appreciate it. Eddie C.
