My review of the Derek Cianfrance film Blue Valentine, starring Ryan Gosling and Michelle Williams. It's a beautiful film, but unfortunately a glitch in my computer has once again knocked the syncopation from my sound, making my thoughts on the film come out with a bit of difficulty. Enjoy if possible, I apologize if not.

  • All I want to say that I enjoyed the movie, because for me when it's about movies or music, it has to move me.

I get your point that no one wants to see self destruction and prefers happy stories. But the goal is to understand how a relationship is not perfect and in the road you get harmed in so many ways that eats you alive, and the film nails it

Anyway, I heard you saying Lars and the real girl, but would you recommend it (as a hole movie not only Ryan's performance)? I'd REALLY aprecciated

  • @diane199021 I don't actually agree with your second point and I'm hoping my viewers don't all take it that I would prefer to see a happier story. In Blue Valentine, I think the point is overdrawn to show a relationship deteriorating, instead of simply existing imperfectly. It's so unbelievably raw that any sort of natural filter - which occurs in real life, too, not just in film - has been removed. But that's just my own opinion.

  • @diane199021 And on the subject of Lars and the Real Girl: Really great movie, albeit very peculiar and a little bit of a stretch to be clever. Nancy Oliver's script is genius, though, and Gosling has a lot of supporting help from incredibly funny people: Emily Mortimer, Patricia Clarkson, and Paul Schneider are each excellent. That movie came before I began doing reviews, but it's still fresh in my mind. See it and let me know what you think!

  • You're a good reviewer and your insights into the films you're dealing with have become more incisive as you do more pictures. I enjiy your reviews despite the synch issues.

  • @MrJkauf I appreciate that a lot. Forgive the computer for it's faultiness.

  • @WeJustGotBetter And me for my bad grammar - its faultiness.

  • no no no no no, she was not happy with him.... he was the one trying to save the marriage.

  • @WeJustGotBetter Hey again. First, thank you for giving me your opinion, I watched it and I knew Ryan's performance was incredible as a disfunctional guy, but what I really loved it was the interaction between all the supporting characters to Lars and of course Bianca, personally who shines the most (after Ryan) is Emily (completely heartbreaking in the scene where she yells to Lars).

And my comment for Blue Valentine, I guess maybe for me wasn't difficult to see it. And again, thanks!!!

  • @colaguy29229 I'll be reviewing Biutiful soon, it's a bit on the terrifying and emotional side, but still excellent. As for Rabbit Hole, I know it feels good to see all the films nominated for a major Oscar (it allows me to feel capable as a critic just accomplishing that much), but it's not particularly great, in general.
