And thus, Ridley continues to fuck the galaxy.

It's not intentionally, the real NES cartridge does the same thing. Just gives you a blank screen.

@MegaDrive20XX Actually, I think the NES version gives you a hugely glitched out game when you try that.

nuoh my god.

I'm not surprised to see this happen. Years ago, I put the password 000000 00000F 000000 00000F in the Metroid: Zero Mission version, and it froze and had a nasty buzzing sound. The worst part: When I turned the GBA back on, all the data was erased!

@MasterZebulin ...The 3DS was more expensive before the price drop on August 12. Anyone who bought their 3DS and connected it to the internet before that date was able to download 10 FREE NES games (including this game) from the eShop. Anyone who bought their 3DS AFTER that date...is screwed and has no chance of downloading the NES games...well, no chance of downloading until much, much later (and they won't be free for anyone who didn't buy a 3DS before August 12).

@SwordmasterYuskei I'm afraid to ask, but why?
-
On some carts, yes. On other carts it gives you a glitchy background and traps you in the first room, but you can move and shoot normally
Does it work after you've restarted it?
