u need to install build-essentials
0) install any dependency the program ask
1) download and extract file desire
2) cd into the folder
3) ./configure
no error? great next step bitch
4) make
5) sudo make install
done

to uninstall, cd into the folder
sudo make uninstall

  • Great video, but could anyone tell, why when I enter cd /home/andy/bibus-0.8.0 says there is no such directory, and there is definitely such folder. How to overcome this issue. Many thanks

  • @andriusj7 maybe case sensitive, try using tab to auto complete

  • It says it does not have an ''acceptable C complier''. I'm trying to install Pidgin on Xandros

  • @Ograws the only c compiler i know on linux is called gcc, for c++ is called g++

  • What do you do if you get an error for having a different version of the required library? e.g. it errors saying cannot compile without libpng when you have libpng12-0.

  • im trying to install the software for my pci lan card....when i try to run ./configure under the proper folder....it doesnt work....any ideas? (imma noob to linux)

  • downloaded thunderbird-8.0.tar.bz2 file. Did all the extracting and cd into the right folder, but ./configure says no bash directory. Same problem with make and other commands. There is no install or readme file and google was'nt much of a help either. Any suggestions? Ubuntu 10.04 LTS
