My brother came into my room one evening and said "Molly, write a song about squirrels."
Random request as it was, I had a go, and this is what came of it. It's the first of my original songs that I can claim completely as my own as I'm 'playing' the guitar as well (which is why it's not very good, because I can't play the guitar). It's not the most complex of songs but for some reason I'm quite proud of it so I thought I'd share it with you lot.
It was all done in one take except the harmonies, which were obviously added later. Hope you like it!
The sun is shining on my window pane this morning
The world is running free
But I can't look outside without remembering
How happy I used to be
I can see the birds sing in the branches
And the squirrels chasing acorns to the ground
I used to sit right here and reminisce
About the life I thought I'd found
And as those birds sing
And squirrels race it reminds me of the freedom
I believed was mine
And I was hunting
For something I already had but I didn't know 'cause I
Just didn't open my eyes
My cat is purring as my hand touches her fur
And I bury myself in thoughts of what used to be
And I am falling into a world of black and white
When before it was all vibrant blue and green
And when the river strokes my feet
And the branches of the trees caress my face
I wonder how I ever let it all fall away
In favour of a life claiming faster pace
And as those birds sing
And squirrels race it reminds me of the freedom
I believed was mine
And I was hunting
For something I already had but I didn't know 'cause I
Just didn't open my eyes
well done! very enjoyable!
