For all you "No Soul" nitwits, Frank completely deconstructed your bullshit knee-jerk concepts on numerous occasions. If you think for for one second you have deeper, more "soulful" understanding of music than Frank, if this was a just universe, your head would explode.

COLD!!! Yer Dead ... it was an improv on the spur of the moment .. FZ was an incredible composer.... aw, nevermind FISH!

@Pwecko and exactly how many Hendrix numbers did you spot in passing ... ??? ... not the number ... but the essential essence ??? I'm old enough to have seen both of them in their youth and there's no real difference to a musician.

All in the ear of the beholder. Perhaps Zappa is deficient in communicating Hendrix but that's a tall order. No soul? Cold? Listen to the Son of Orange County Edinboro U. solo maybe it will chane your mind. Zappa's first group was called the "Soul Giants",

Undoubtedly accomplished musicians but, as with most of Zappa's music, this lacks any soul. It is simply a demonstration of musical prowess rather than an attempt to communicate emotions. Jimi Hendrix was a great communicator. His music made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up. Zappa leaves me cold.

he could not do that with Duane Allman...he would actually have to play...D.A. rules

I think Michael Winslow is the best at copying Hendrix's sound.

@lampang3 - I'm not so sure it's satire. I think they might have just done a cover if there was time to rehearse one. What it sounds to me like they're going for is something like parts of the Woodstock performance: a funky, spiky, upended sort of loose jam at high volume that manages to sound awesome by sheer virtue of who's involved. Remember how he says, "You can leave if you want, we're just jamming that's all"? That was probably his honest thought at that moment. Then he whips out SSB!

Adrian Belew is quite smart and doesn't attempt to imitate Jimi. It's the mood he goes for. Look up Randy Hansen for the mastery of Hendrix style.
