PORTAGE DAILY REGISTER VIDEO: Big horse

Jake, a 9-year-old Belgian gelding, one of about 20 Belgian draft horses at Smokey Hollow Farm near Poynette, Wis., was destined to be a big horse from the moment of his birth. On Tuesday, Jake and his owners staked their claim that he may be the tallest horse in the world.

In front of numerous video and still cameras, Jakes owners, handler and a veterinarian took three separate measurements of his height from hoof (without shoes) to withers (the area between a horses shoulders and neck).

The official measurement: 20 hand, 2.75 inches.

A hand, in horse measurement, equals 4 inches, so that would make Jake 82.75 inches tall, or a quarter-inch short of 6 feet, 11 inches.

The owners of Smokey Hollow Farm will submit Jakes measurements, and the documentation of how they were made, to the publishers of "Guinness World Records" in England, in the hope that Jake will unseat a black and white Clydesdale in Texas, named Remington, as the worlds tallest living horse.

The owners conducted three measurements, one of which is shown in this video. The publishers of "Guiness World Records" will make the final determination.

Good morning. I work for the Portage Daily Register, the newspaper that posted the video. I was not present at the measuring and can't address the accuracy of the owners' claims but can say the owners conducted three separate measurements, only one of which was included in the video. I'll update the description to make that clear. The owners have sent their measurements to the Guinness publishers, who will make the final determination.

@equipoize I was watching it on TV, It was confirmed by Guiness that he is the tallest horse in the world. They showed the plaque from Guiness world records
