  • Thinking of social implications of religion on women is the example of the SBC. Southern Baptist Convention-largest Protestant denomination in the US/2nd largest Christian group deems women as an integral part of the ministry but pastoral leadership is assigned to men. Bible is clear on a woman's place regardless of denomination. Religion impedes progress. Everyone should be feminist and pro-equal rights. :)

  • Rhonda9, you said it! The Bible is very clear on a woman's place, and we are surely not in that place. Thanks for your input and ongoing contributions. You're awesome.

  • i like that woman....

  • *that woman likes you*

    (Hi Tan!)

  • do you have to to like abortions to be a feminist? i'm not really into that. :(

  • I don't think anyone likes abortions, and there is certainly is no requirement that says a feminist is pro-abortion.

  • Not supporting the use of the word feminism for me has nothing to do with it being emasculating. I feel that there should be equal rights, but the word feminism makes it sound like it's a woman's viewpoint. Ultimately I know that's not the case, but I don't think that I should have to be a feminist to support the full emancipation of women.

  • The sad part is that it only carries and anti-male connotations because conservative reactionaries since the begining of the struggle for the rights of women -- have said we are anti-male. There is indeed a tiny subset - who are, but it's is not the mainstream thread of history that is represented by mainstream feminist thought. Just like ANY wide swatch of thought on a subject so broad would have many tributaries.

  • The word definitely has a negative connotation, and there's probably multiple reasons for that. For a lot of people living in progressive parts of the world, we already perceive that women already have equal rights, so it's not intuitive that a word is required to positively assert support for it; it might then be assumed that this word positively asserted more than just equal rights. Just as I would not label myself an aracist, I would not label myself a feminist.

  • Actually as i said in a post, your true from extreme stand point of Feminism, how ever ones who take that position instead of the positive one are typically few in number, fail in there efforts, and are isolated from every one men and women included, society has a tendency to distance itself from people who harm a part of it.

  • In the question of feminism being a Caucasian male life has show me two approaches of Feminism and well most things, Positive-Feminism a set of mind focused on improving the whole but from a female stand point, negative-feminism on equality is like PITA on animal rights just kills it, more concerned with slashing the opposite sex down, really ruins the image of Feminism as a whole. So long as it is Positive Feminism happy to support.

  • im an atheist. personally the word feminist does not seem emasculating, but the only thing i think of was a woman saying im a "sexist pig" when i said "i do not support Hillary Clinton" when she asked me. she also said that "im a feminist" and thats why she supported hillary. personally she was a lunatic, not for her political views. i would say i want equal rights for both sexes.

  • Exactly. I mean, we dont call black people that are against racism 'anti-white'. Some are -ironically that makes them racist too. So why are women (or men) that are against sexism anti-male?

  • and forfend a lady should ever be perceived as expressing - anger...it's so unladylike. Any remote hint of it - will be treated thusly - weather it actually exists.

I was not angry before that thread - am I an 'angry feminist' now.. you tell me?

  • I would add that I am here making videos - much less..because of how unproductive, violent, appalling and yes frightening I found the comments there...how pissed off I got - and how loud the silence was as I dealt with all that in a way that made me feel very alone here. I went back to my life happily...

  • Just talking about 'equal rights' doesn't really imply an interest in being concerned of the toxic effects of misogyny... I can't really think of it exclusively as a matter simply of 'rights.' I say this as a person who was openly exploring the term in my video

"am/not feminist" in response to a q by thinkmorepink.

I invite those serious about the question to take a look at the comments and hopefully add some light - because I find what is there - sickening.
